中文简介

Hans von Storch is a German climate scientist, working in the field of climate, climate change and climate impact. Most of his publications are dealing with natural science issue, but a significant part of his attention is directed towards social science issues such as perception of climate change and competition of different knowledge systems, as well as the problem of transdisciplinary exchange between science, stakeholders and society.

So far, he has authored and edited 27 books (http://www.hvonstorch.de/klima/books.htm, of which 2 are translated to Chinese, see below) and more than 240 peer-reviewed articles and chapters (http://www.hvonstorch.de/klima/pub.htm). His h-index amounts to 61. His achievements are documented on his extensive and regularly updated web-pages (http://www.hvonstorch.de/klima/).

Hans von Storch was until 2015 a director of the Institute of Coastal Research of the Helmholtz Zentrum Geesthacht near Hamburg, Germany. He is also professor at the University of Hamburg, Germany, and since June 2013 he is guest professor at the Ocean University of China, in Qingdao, which in 2023 was extended for another 3 years . To some extent, he is following the steps of Jürgen Sündermann, who built since the early 1980s steadily contacts with his partners mainly, but not only, at the Ocean University of China, as outlined in the von Storch-and-Li anthology (see below).

In 2015, he visited the College for Environmental and Physical Oceanography of the Ocean University of China for two months (in March and April), and gave his 4-lectures course "Advanced conceptual issues in climate and coastal science".

He is a frequent visitor of China, with visits not only to the Ocean University of China in Qingdao, the Institutes of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Yantai and Qingdao, the Meteorological Academy of the Chinese Meteorological Agency in Beijing, the State Key Laboratory on Coastal and Estuarine Studies in Shanghai as well as the South China Sea Institute in Guangzhou. Early coauthors were Cui Maochang (崔茂常) from Qingdao, and Liu Jian (刘健) from Nanjing (see reference list below).

So far, seven students funded by the Chinese Scholarship Council received their PhD degrees, namely Chen Fei (陈飞), Xia Lan 夏兰), Feng Jianlong (冯建龙), Li Delei (李德磊), Zhang Meng (张萌), Tang Shengquan (唐声全) and Lin Lin(林璘) under his supervision. In 2024 an anthology, based on many of the papers of these former students was compiled, and will be pubished inn the 12nd half of 2024 - hopefully ready for the festivities on the occasion the 100 year anniversary of the Ocean University of China in October 2024.

Upon the strength of her dissertation, Klaus Hasselmann selected Lin Lin as his "Nobel-laureate fellow" for three years in Hamburg at the Max-Planck Institute of Meteorology. This allows Lin Lin and Hans von Storch to continue their successful cooperation on understanding the internal variability (hydrodynamical noise) in the ocean.
